A Burnished Rose

Recommended Reads:

Below is a smattering of books that I have read and would recommend to anyone. To get a more complete list, visit www.goodreads.com or www.librarything.com and look for my name. FYI - The goodreads site is a more user friendly, so I'll probably keep that up better than the librarything site.

QB VII - by Leon Uris. I read this a long time ago and really liked it. I need to read it again!

The Bell Jar - by Sylvia Plath. I just re-read this recently (actually I listened to the audio version in my car. I wish Ms Plath had stayed around to write more novels.

Crime and Punishment - by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I listened to this one too. I was surprised by how contemporary the main theme was for something written so long ago.

Skeletons at the Feast - by Chris Bohjalian. I really enjoyed this story probably because it is similar to my own writing in style and genre. I read another of Chris's books - The Buffalo Soldier, but I didn't like that as well as Skeletons ...

Awareness - by Anthony de Mello. This is a little known work copyrighted in 1990, before it was in to be “aware” and “live in the moment.” It is written by a Jesuit priest with editing by J. Francis Stroud (also a Jesuit) after De Mello's death.

Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life - by Wayne Dyer. This is sometimes a bit deep, but it has much to share that can set you free!

Conversations with God - by Neale Donald Walsch. I really enjoyed this one. Many of the things that are said really resonate with me. (I even quote it in A Burnished Rose. Can Walsh fans find it?)

The Book of Ruth - by Jane Hamilton. This author is another Wisconsinite, so I had to read something of hers. I just picked this one out of a hat. The story is a little depressing but the characters are very real.

Eat, Pray, Love - by Elizabeth Gilbert. Some interesting thoughts shared by the author and it's interesting to think of all the places she went.

Memoirs of a Geisha - by Arthur Golden. I read this not knowing anything about it, so I thought it was an actual memoir. I couldn't put it down. I like the movie too.

Poisonwood Bible - by Barbara Kingsolver. This is another one I had a hard time putting down. I would like to read more of her stuff but haven't yet.

Perfect Match - by Jodi Picoult. I've read a few of Jodi's books and like most everyone, some more than others, but usually a safe bet.

The Four Agreements - by Don Miguel Ruiz. I don't know who put me onto this book but it is another that I will re-read again and again. I give it to all my graduating nieces and nephews.

The Secret - by Rhonda Byrne. I enjoyed this and do agree with the basic concepts, but I don't think she has everything figured out.
